What´s new at Wintergrass this year? Lots. Eighteen of the twenty-eight bands in the lineup have never been to Wintergrass before. Only three of the remaining ten were here last year and they all have new tunes. That’s a lot of new stuff and that’s just what’s onstage. Before we tell you about the rest of the story, we’d like to welcome Danilo Brito and Maria Braga to Wintergrass. Danilo is our guest artist from Brazil appearing officially courtesy of the Brazilian Ministry of Arts and Culture (I don’t know about you, but I just like the sound of that). But unofficially he comes to us through our shadowy gypsy of an artistic director Mike Marshall. Mike probably never could sit still long enough to really be aour artistic director, but he cathes us every year with some glorious, musical goodie that certainly couldn’t pass up. We first met Danilo two years ago at the Mandolim Symposium where his elegance and soulful playing left everyone breathless and quiet. It was the kind of deep-down-in-your-soul quiet that is rarely encountered. We have loved him ever since. Maria may translate his words for you, but you will need no translation when listening to his music. Please make both of them very welcome.
